HOW WE BALANCE IT ALL

Balancing Work and Wanderlust

How We Balance It all

Living life on the road may sound like a perpetual vacation, and trust me, some days it feels that way. But when your office doubles as your living room, and your view outside changes as often as the weather, balancing work and wanderlust becomes its own kind of art form. Here’s how we’ve learned to make it work.

Work Where You Play

One of the biggest challenges of living on the road full-time is staying focused when the environment around us practically screams, “Come outside and play!”

It’s a little easier for Kyle. His job as a PGA Tour Caddie means he heads out to the golf course for his workdays, leaving our cozy RV behind. For me, working remotely, the challenge lies in creating structure—and sticking to it.

The key?

A solid daily schedule.

I don’t work in pajamas (tempting as it might be). Instead, I get up, go through my morning routine, and “clock in” for my work hours as if I were in a traditional office. It helps me stay productive and feel professional, even if my only coworkers are the trees and local wildlife.

Morning Routines That Work

We’ve both found that starting the day right sets the tone for everything else. Kyle likes to wake up a couple of hours before he heads to the course. He enjoys his coffee, watches sports, and eases into his day.

Me? I’ve borrowed some inspiration from Brendon Burchard and developed a routine that keeps me grounded and energized:

  • 20 Minutes to Move: A walk, yoga, or a quick at-home workout gets my blood flowing.
  • 10 Minutes for Positivity: I spend this time reading, journaling, or listening to a bit of an inspiring podcast.
  • 30 Minutes for Breakfast & Planning: While I eat, I review my plans for the day, which I prepped the night before.
  • 30 Minutes to Get Ready: This is my time to transition fully into “work mode.”

With this routine, I’m ready to tackle my day—even if the neighbors next door are hosting a poolside barbecue at 10 a.m.

The Power of Scheduling

If there’s one piece of advice I’d give to anyone working remotely, it’s this: SCHEDULE EVERYTHING. I’m not just talking about meetings or deadlines. On our calendar, you’ll find work tasks, personal priorities, travel plans, and even social commitments.

Why? Because life on the road (or simply life in general) can easily derail your focus. Without a plan, it’s easy to let distractions—or workaholism—take over. Scheduling gives us clarity and control. We’ve even discovered that when everything is planned out, we have more free time to enjoy the adventure. Who knew?

When Work and Wanderlust Collide

Balancing work and wanderlust isn’t about splitting our time 50/50. It’s about being intentional and flexible. Some days, the work runs long—and that’s okay. Other days, when we’re parked by a lake or near a national park, I’ll wrap up early to take in the beauty around me.

And while I’ve had to learn boundaries and not avail myself to clients 24/7 (it’s far too easy to keep going when your desk is steps away), I’ve also realized the importance of showing up fully for both parts of this lifestyle.

Whether it’s designing a marketing strategy or hiking a mountain trail, being present is the real secret to balance. It doesn’t mean time gets nicely split 50/50, it means fully showing up for whatever moment you’re in—giving work your focus when it’s time to hustle and soaking in the adventure when it’s time to explore.

Work can wait — the lake (and the hubs) called.

At the end of the day (sometimes literally), this unconventional life is one we wouldn’t trade for anything. Yes, there are challenges. Yes, it takes discipline. But every new horizon and every moment of freedom makes it all worthwhile.

So, if you’ve ever dreamed of a life that blends work and adventure, know that it’s possible. You CAN balance it all. And YOU can determine what that “balance” should look like. And who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll see you out there, living your own version of a freedom-driven life.

The goal isn’t to escape life, but to ensure life doesn’t escape you.
